I decided to tackle the broom closet. It was one of those closets that you’d open the door and hope that stuff wouldn’t fall out at you. I didn’t even take before pictures because they just wouldn’t have shown the closet at all (well, that and the fact that as usual, I just jumped right in and then later thought about taking before pictures, oops).
I painted the inside of the closet bright yellow. I love that the color is so energizing and helps get me pumped to clean.
I added the following: chalkboard painted on the door, custom sized DIY organizer, ironing board hangers, and magazine holder for keeping vacuum supplies together. The boxes at the top of the closet are empty ones that I’ll use for birthday and Christmas gifts.
I’m not sure what to do with the hooks at the back of the closet. A prior owner of the house installed those, and they’re very sturdy, so I’m not sure I simply want to remove them. But, there are two hooks that aren’t level, and they don’t match.
Originally, I wanted to attach the drawer pull to the door using screws. But, our doors are hollow, so the screws would have nothing to hold onto. Instead, I decided to use the mounting squares that I cut to fit.
I’ll do a separate post of the organizer itself. It’s so useful, and it was really easy to sew. I’m really glad I made it myself rather than trying to repurpose a store-bought over the door show organizer (which would have been too big, and the pockets would have been too small).
I’m so happy with my newly organized closet. I go in and the color brightens my day. I know just where to find things in there now. And, it looks so nice and organized!
The people at Ace Hardware were super helpful with this whole closet makeover project. I would go in and tell them what I wanted and they would either find it in the store, or direct me to a better material. I love my Ace. It’s true, Ace is the place with the helpful hardware people.
