I’ve been on a bit of a cinnamon kick lately. You saw me post about this Cinnamon Sore Throat Tea recently. (On a little side-note, I have read that cinnamon may help fight colds! Maybe that’s why I’ve been on this kick.) Fortunately, both of us are feeling much better after those horrible colds.
My favorite drink from Starbucks is the Cinnamon Dolce Latte with soy milk. I know it isn’t one of their more popular syrup flavors, but it is delicious. I rarely go there any more though. I’d rather just drink the coffee I brew at home. It’s kinda funny, I used to say that I liked all coffee. But, now that I brew my own at home, I’m pretty picky. It has to be just right. Thus, I don’t buy out much anymore.
Making this Cinnamon Dolce Latter Syrup at home totally fits with my home coffee preferences. It makes a nice big batch of syrup that I can keep in a jar in the fridge for about a month (if it lasts that long). But, besides adding this syrup to my morning coffee, I also love to add it to some club soda. It’s a nice light bubbly afternoon pick-me-up! And, well, you could add a shot of booze to it as well if you were so inclined (I won’t tell anyone!). But, definitely do that at home too!
Use how much syrup makes you happy. A little more, a little less. It’s all good. I figured about 3 tablespoons per serving, but this may change depending on your sweetness preference. Add some steamed milk and whipped cream to your Cinnamon Dolce Latte to get the full Starbucks experience.
Oh, and in case you wanted to know, Dolce is Italian for “sweet.” Awww, ain’t that sweet!
- 2 cups water
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 cup strong coffee
- ½ teaspoon instant espresso
- Place all ingredients in a small saucepan, and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat, and let simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat, and let cool. Remove cinnamon sticks.
- Mix with club soda, seltzer water, or coffee, and serve iced or hot.
- Keep syrup in the fridge in a tightly covered jar for up to 1 month.
- Serves 16 (I figured about 3 tablespoons per serving, but this may change depending on your sweetness preference)
